PureHMO® Powder vs. PureHMO® Capsules - What's the Difference? - Layer Origin Nutrition

PureHMO® Powder vs. PureHMO® Capsules - What's the Difference?

Well, the actual Human Milk Oligosaccharide in both products is indeed the same, but, there are still some small differences between the two products.

PureHMO Powder and PureHMO capsule bottles INGREDIENTS IN ADDITION TO HMO

The PureHMO® Prebiotic capsules are mostly just 2'-Fucosyllactose, which is the most abundant type of HMO. However, because they house the HMO inside a capsule, they also contain these other ingredients:

  • Hydroxpropyl Methylcelluclose aka HPMC (vegetable capsule)
  • Organic pea protein (the capsules used to contain magnesium stearate and silica until we updated our technology to remove those flow agents)
  • Trace amounts of lactose (barely detectable)

The PureHMO® Prebiotic powder on the other hand has only a single ingredient inside the bottle: 2'-Fucosyllactose.

BENEFITS OF EACH HMO PRODUCT

Layer Origin Nutrition customers have said they like the capsules for their portability. They can easily be taken at home with a glass of water but can also be thrown into a purse, gym bag, or briefcase and taken to work.

The ability to have HMO anywhere, at any time, is a big selling point for many people. All they need is water for swallowing the capsules.

On the other hand, customers like the powder because it is so easily mixable into yogurt, protein shakes, smoothies, beverages, and almost anything else.

The ability to quickly add a scoop of the HMO powder into whatever you're already going to eat is something many customers appreciate.

ABSORPTION OF THE HMO

The PureHMO® powder does have a quicker absorption rate than the PureHMO® capsules. This is simply because the powder is not encapsulated inside anything so it can go straight into your system and get to work.

The capsules on the other hand do have to dissolve first for the powder inside them to be released into your system.

There is really not a major difference here, but if you want the absolute fastest absorption rate possible, then you would want to choose the powder.

The PureHMO® capsules have 1800mg of HMO per serving (3 capsules) and Layer Origin Nutrition recommends that you take three capsules per day once your body has adjusted to HMO.

Specifically, new users are instructed to take just 1-2 capsules for the first three to five days and then increase their dosage to three capsules per day thereafter.

So, if you take two capsules per day for the first three days, and then three capsules per day after that, one bottle (90 capsules) would last for 34 days.

PureHMO® Powdercontains 45 scoops, with 1950mg of HMO per scoop. Layer Origin Nutrition recommends that you start with a half-scoop and work up to a full scoop each day.

So, if you take a half scoop for the first three days, and then a full scoop each day after that, one bottle (45 scoops) would last for about 46 days.

If you take a half scoop for the first five days, and then a full scoop each day after that, one bottle (45 scoops) would last for about 47 days.

As you can see, the powder is a much longer lasting supply of HMO.

The PureHMO® capsules retail for $26.99 and the PureHMO® powderretails for $29.00.

From a pure cost perspective, the powder provides a better value.

However, some people prefer to avoid scooping, measuring, and stirring and instead opt for what they believe to be the faster method for ingesting HMO, via the capsules.

The decision of which type of PureHMO® prebiotic to try is one that is personal and likely different for each individual.

The key is that you're aware of the health benefits of HMO and considering one of the two.

It's difficult to "go wrong" with the powder or the capsules as both have their pros and cons, but ultimately, contain the same main ingredient!

Some people decide to order both and use the powder when they're at home and take the capsules in the car, to the office, or with them during travel.

Aging is inevitable, but why do some people age better than others? The answer lies in a mix of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Another key player is the gut microbiome, which might hold the key to longevity and health. Using a review by Ghosh et al. The Human Milk Oligosaccharide - 2'-Fucosyllactose (2'-FL) Prevents Intestinal Inflammation, Study Finds

July 12, 2024 7 min read

Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), particularly the glycan known as 2’-Fucosyllactose (2’-FL), have been a cornerstone in neonatal nutrition, offering the first sweet taste and vital energy while establishing a thriving gut microbiome. Recent studies have expanded the understanding of these substances, with research showing 2’-FL's pivotal role in not only fostering beneficial gut bacteria but also in potentially mitigating adult conditions such as colitis. The Schalich et al. (2024) study further explores this by investigating 2’-FL's ability to modulate gut microbial metabolism, suggesting a promising future for HMOs in adult disease prevention and therapy, particularly for inflammatory bowel diseases like colitis.
